The GV60 Magma: Burning Like a Volcano

On March 25, 2024, at Genesis House New York, Genesis unveiled the GV60 Magma concept and announced the official launch of Magma, a program created as part of its strategic plan for the next ten years. More than a year and a half later, in November 2025, the all-new GV60 Magma made its premiere at Circuit Paul Ricard (France) as the first high-performance vehicle of the Korean luxury brand, which began its journey in 2015. The electric SUV we’ve all been waiting for is almost here: it’s expected to go on sale in 2026. It will surely blow your mind with attributes that set it apart from the standard GV60.

Magma Program

When you hear “Magma” nowadays, you won’t just think of the mixture of molten rock and minerals that exists under the Earth’s crust. It’s the name of Genesis’s long-term program, which has been developed over years of experimentation, innovation, and engineering excellence.

During the Magma World Premiere, Genesis introduced a selection of concept vehicles and prototypes part of the program, such as the GV80 Coupé concept, the G80 Magma Special prototype, the G90 Wingback concept, as well as the GV60 Magma concept. Not tied to a single model, Magma is a high-performance program that evolves through the iterative development of design and driving dynamics, as well as the technological innovations inspired by concept vehicles. It ultimately aims to develop a high-end variant of each model within the existing Genesis lineup, enhancing both design and performance. Each vehicle will embody the following three fundamental attributes: “Unspoken Dominance,” “Captivating Control” and “Sharpened Immersion.”

The GV60 Magma, the very first production model born from this vision, is ready to pave the way for the next generation of high-performance Genesis models.

One-of-a-Kind Performance

Equipped with dual electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear, the new vehicle delivers a combined output of 609 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque. However, a button on the steering wheel lets you activate “Boost” mode, which temporarily increases power to 650 hp and torque to 583 lb-ft for about 15 seconds. On a track, you can accelerate from a standstill to 200 km/h in 10.9 seconds using Launch Control function.

The SUV also features three driving modes and new high-performance capabilities, including the Virtual Gear Shift (VGS) system, the Drift mode, and the High-Performance Battery Control (HPBC) system. The VGS adjusts motor output, torque, and regenerative braking to replicate the shift feel and driving dynamics of a high-performance internal combustion engine vehicle. It simultaneously simulates the sound of a high-revving engine, giving you an immersive and emotionally engaging driving experience like no other. The HPBC technology is designed to manage the battery’s temperature and power output to ensure optimum performance, whether on the track, during spirited driving, or under heavy acceleration.

Charging wise, the GV60 Magma goes from 10% to 80% in 18 minutes.

Bold Exterior Design

The GV60 Magma takes the standard GV60 to a whole new level with its much more aggressive design. Visually, it’s wider and lower than its counterpart. The orange shade, Magma’s introductory colour, highlights numerous aesthetic changes at both the front and rear to make the vehicle more stable at high speed and ensure the cooling of its electrified mechanics.

From the side, the body is lowered by 20 millimetres and the fenders are wider to accommodate exclusive 21-inch wheels fitted with 275-millimetre-wide tires. As with the front, the profile has been designed to optimize aerodynamics: the bumper features a three-slot grille, creating a unique visual signature while optimizing airflow and cooling. At the rear, the bumper has also been redesigned and integrates a lower diffuser specifically engineered to further improve aerodynamics.

Luxurious Interior

Inside, the GV60 Magma retains its luxurious finish, but a sportier character makes its debut. The black interior is upholstered in chamude, a high-end suede-like material, embellished with orange and grey stitching, creating a striking contrast and clearly evoking the Magma DNA. The controls have a glossy black or dark metallic finish and the monitors have a display specific to this version. The new steering wheel features a unique shape that highlights the athletic character of the SUV. It also integrates the Boost button and a new Magma switch, which allows you to flick through all of the different driving modes, or, if you press on it, you get to the two Magma specific modes.

Dedicated Digital Technology

The GV60 Magma delivers a fully immersive digital environment, combining a dedicated interface as well as a sound design and driving assistance system to elevate every moment behind the wheel. Engage Magma mode, and the dashboard instantly transforms into a bold three-circle display that highlights important performance data, such as motor and battery temperatures, speed, and G-force. The head-up display complements this with a clean, intuitive view of essential information, including speed, regenerative braking levels, and remaining boost time.
